The darwin bombings in 19th FEBRUARY 1942 was a disastrous means of invasion and destruction. the Japanese bombers flew above Darwin ans dropped tens of hundreds of bombs onto darwin which physically and mentally weakened australian forces at the time. there were 64 raids on Darwin and 33 raids on other targets in northern australia.
on that day, darwin was attacked by 188 enemy planes who were bombing all the allied ships at the HARBOR. this attack was said to be the largest japanese attack ever, even compared to pearl harbor, the damage and destruction the bombs causes australians to fear the japanese. although Australia was prepared for the attack, the japanese stealthily planned the attack to just destroy the allied Sea and air forces, instead of trying to invade australia. this helps them gain more protection from australia and gain richer resources from southeast asia and the like.
ON THE 16TH DECEMBER, THE ADMINISTRATOR ISSUED AN ORDER TO EVACUATE ALL THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN DARWIN. THE EVACUATION WAS PRIMARILY ORGANISED BY THE A.R.P (AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS). MOST OF THE 1066 WOMEN AND 900 CHILDREN LEFT DARWIN BY SEA ON DECEMBER 19 ABOARD THE KOOLINDA. THE CONDITIONS ON THE SHIPS WERE AS BAD AS THE FIGHTING. THERE WERE FOOD AND WATER SHORTAGES AND THEY WERE HOT AND CROWDED. AT NIGHT THE SHIP WOULD BLACK OUT TO PREVENT DETECTION FROM ENEMY AIRS AND SHIPS. australia was well under attack and australian forces did their best to fight off the japanese of australian land.
